The reason for our meeting today was the long-awaited budget novelty called Tangzu Wan’er 2. Despite the index 2, this is in fact the third Wan’er model. The first two had the index S.G., which is an abbreviation of the surname Shangguan (Shangguan). This is a female prime minister, an important person during the Tang Dynasty.

The second model additionally received the Studio Edition postscript. And by the way, in particular, we will compare this model today.
Well, according to the usual plan - my subjective opinion and impression of the headphones, a few words about the sound on different sources and a comparison with classmates by configuration.
The cost of headphones today is about $ 18-20.
Packaging and kit.
The packaging is in the same style as the previous models. A fairly large square box with a cute Chinese woman on the front. I will not describe it further. I will only mention a few differences.
If earlier we were given a very beautiful silk napkin with a print in the kit, now it is an ordinary square cardboard with a print. An even more useless thing than a napkin)
The second is a set of ear pads. Now, in addition to three pairs of stock dark tips with a red leg, they included three pairs of branded Tang Sankai ear pads. Which is very, very good!
And the last thing is the cable. It has become much better in appearance and better quality in terms of conductor. Silver-plated OFC copper with 5N purification is used, metal fittings.
There are versions with 3.5, 4.4 and Type C connectors. You can also choose an option with a microphone.
I have a stock 3.5 without a microphone.
The quality of the complete accessories has become significantly better.

In terms of configuration, this is a good old monodynamic speaker with a diameter of 10 mm and a polymer diaphragm. The sensitivity of the headphones is 113 dB, the resistance is 19 Ohm, the frequency range is 20 Hz - 20 kHz. The connector is now 2Pin instead of QDC, which in my opinion is a plus.
Appearance.
The dimensions and design of the shells have changed. Now they are larger and more massive. The shape and volume of the acoustic chamber have been redesigned. Which is reflected in the sound. Transparent plastic was chosen as the material, the weight is small. There are two colors - black and transparent, they are also white. I have the second ones.
The style of the faceplates is similar to the first model. Patterns and hieroglyphs. Atmospheric and entourageous. There are channel markings.
There are two holes on the inside of the cases. There is no vacuum, ventilation is implemented. Passive Noise Reduction is average.
The model has adopted a dubious feature from the Studio Edition model - these are low sound tubes. Downright low. But this is easily solved with high-profile tips.
The assembly is high-quality, the appearance is pleasant. The fit, provided the right tips - no questions!
I used Pentaconn COREIR BRASS earpads and a Xinhs Snow Angel S69 cable.

Now about the sound!
Let's start with the sources.
iBasso DX180 and Shanling M1 Plus.
Of course, it's obvious who is stronger. But I'll still speak out.
M1 Plus shows more pronounced accents on the highs, less detailed mids and a smoother low. That is, the source has a colder and more caustic character.
DX180 is much more interesting and has a richer overtone at low and mid frequencies. In terms of quality, both devices have similar mids and highs.
Only iBasso pulls out and implements more nuances, more after-sounds and useful resonances.
Exactly the same in terms of highs.
Shanling has more sharpness and iBasso has more small nuances.
In general, iBasso has a higher overall sound level. Plus there is some gain in the lower mids and mid bass. Which only benefits the Waner 2.
Next we have impressions for each range:
Highs.
The high frequency range is revealed quite widely. There are no parasitic rustles or whistles. As well as there are no extended tails with long attenuations. For this budget, this is rare, so it is expected. The main part of the range is worked out clearly and distinctly, without turbidity and velveteen. Expressive hats and cymbals, a spirited saxophone and emotional upper notes of high vocals.
In my opinion, the implementation is worthy of this budget and this emitter. Well, at least my expectations are justified.
Mids.
But you know, I liked the middle, yes. Someone will say the upper middle is raised. Others will complain about the thin and anemic lower middle. Both will be, in general, right. Everyone has their own taste and opinion.
And for me personally, the emphasis on the upper midrange is appropriate and moderate. But the drums are sharp, the ladies excite with their vocals and the guitar parts charge with drive and enthusiasm. I didn't catch any cuts, saws or rips. On my favorite music.
Well, for example, listen to a quality tribute from the Stone Sour team to the great composition by Metallica called Creeping Death. Very active rhythm guitar, also emphasized in the arrangement.
And not without a solo, by the way. Comfortable, aggressive and assertive And Corey Taylor's high vocals are shown perfectly. In general, a cool cover came out, by the way. I highly recommend it. A good and punchy rhythm section is also in place.
And then smoothly to the lower middle.
In my case, the DX180 player did a good job of the headphones and brought a handful of mass and corporeality to this range. The second handful was brought by the Pentaconn ear pads. They have a noticeable effect on both the lower midrange and the midrange bass. The sound gets a small boost and greater density.
Bass.
Here I can say that the upper and midrange bass is dominant. No rumbles or booms were noticed. There is a dense and strong blow, there is energy.
The lower bass is moderate and even rather in short supply. But the sub is felt, although not effective enough.
The stage is clearly felt in width and volume. Good positioning and localization. Expressed stereo panorama. The depth is small, not impressive. It sounds somewhat constrained in this sense.
I still consider the overall resolution to be quite high.
For conclusion, there is a comparison of our heroes with two pairs of IEMs.
The first will be, of course, Wan’er Studio Edition.
Actually, the name Studio is not given in vain.
Significantly less bass and due to this, a more prominent midrange. Plus, there is also more upper midrange. Listen to the details, vocals and guitar strumming, be an audiophile. This is for Studio. But the upper midrange can often become uncomfortable.
Wan’er 2 is warmer, more dynamic and safer. Although the vocals and guitars are somewhat recessed compared to Studio, they sound more comfortable and, one might say, pop, in the sense that the tone is designed for a wide audience. And the upper midrange of Wan’er 2 is more interesting and diverse.
And of course, I can’t help but compare it with my favorites, namely Tripowin x 0diBi: Vivace.
According to the numbers, Tripowin is in the same budget, but in fact they are twice as expensive. Waner have ear pads that are not the cheapest, and the cable has become much better quality. And we all understand that this is included in the kit at our expense, and not as a gift) And the price of these goodies is at least half of the total price.
In the case of tripods, everything that was paid went into the sound. And I would say that they sound even more expensive than their price.
0diBi give a more natural sound. They have more warmth and high-quality highs. The middle is more expressive and lively. In general, more interesting. To my taste. But to someone they may seem overly bright. Yes, the intensity on the highs is decent. You need to understand this.
Waner 2 give more aggression and sharpness in the upper middle, less collected and accentuated timbres. But the highs are calmer and safer.
I would say it turned out to be a symbiosis of the first two Waner models. All their advantages were brought together and the disadvantages were removed. Yes, the overall sound is built by the forces of the upper middle and highs. But not without feasible physical help from the lower section of the midrange and mid bass.
The kit has been noticeably improved. With such ear pads and a cable, you can not even think about replacing them.
They breathed new life into the appearance and design of the shells. In my opinion, it turned out well.
I listened to a variety of musical material. In general, there are no questions. All styles are presented with dignity.
Yes, objectively assessing the upper middle, it has an accent. If you are sensitive and demanding of this part, think several times.
The headphones react sensitively to the nature of the sources. And this gives us the opportunity to correct the tone and character of the sound. Bright sources are definitely not a good choice for these headphones.
The headphones are not demanding in terms of power, they are easier to swing than the previous Studio Edition.
Overall, it definitely has a place to be! A worthy player in low budgets.
Thanks for attention! See ya!
