I picked up the TRI KongTong I2 for only £59.00, and honestly, that price still blows me away. For what these IEMs deliver, the value is immense! Easily one of the best budget audio surprises I’ve had in a long time. Mine now have around 100 hours of burn‑in, and they’ve definitely settled into a smoother, more cohesive sound over time.
I’m running the I2 from the FiiO BTR17 using the 4.4mm balanced output (aptX Lossless), which is absolutely the best way to drive them. The extra power, separation, and control really help the I2 open up, especially with electronic music where layering, imaging, and transient clarity matter.
I’ve also found that fit is extremely important with the I2. I’m using the stock TRI Clarion tips, and they give me an excellent seal and comfort. With these tips, the bass response tightens up, the stage opens, and the overall tonality feels more balanced and coherent. The I2 really rewards a proper fit.
For cables, I’ve tried a few, but the NICEHCK SpaceCloud is the clear winner. It tightens the bass, adds clarity to the upper mids, and gives the I2 more speed and definition without messing with its natural warmth. The synergy is excellent - the SpaceCloud keeps everything clean, controlled, and energetic, which is exactly what the I2 needs to shine.
The KongTong I2 has a smooth, slightly warm tonality with a wide, immersive stage. Sub bass reaches deep and stays controlled, mids have a natural, slightly lush character, and the treble is present but never sharp. It’s a very easy, addictive listen.
Detail retrieval is surprisingly good for the price. Micro‑details in pads, background effects, reverb tails, and subtle electronic textures come through clearly without sounding forced or analytical. The I2 manages to stay smooth while still revealing plenty of information, which is a rare balance at this price point.
What stands out most is how cohesive the I2 sounds. Nothing feels forced or exaggerated. It’s the kind of tuning that lets you relax into the music rather than constantly analyse it.
I’m using UAPP with my own WAV files, plus YouTube Premium and Spotify Premium depending on the situation. The I2 handles all of them well, but it really shines with high quality local files.
