01

Foreword

The name KBEAR needs no introduction, but this latest model does. When my friend was in Canjam, who is acquainted with kilobucks, he told me the guys over at KBEAR were cooking with something good that’s supposedly only going to be 99USD. Knowing him which he is extremely particular and unapologetic, even for expensive IEMs, I was intrigued.

The IEM in question that he heard at the KEEPHIFI booth was the Kalideer Apex-P6, and after getting it on hand, I can kind of see why.

Reviewer’s Note

My judgement on how an IEM sounds will always be done with a relative comparison based on it’s MSRP. Technical aspects such as dynamics, staging, imaging, and detail retrieval is as equally important as the general tuning of the IEM.

04

Sound Signature :

  •  KBEAR Kalideer comes off as a Balanced IEM that gives a good amount of body specifically to the lower frequencies to midrange

  •  Tonality of the Kalideer is leaning towards a warm pair

  •  In general, despite the initial seconds of musicality, it immediately follows up with quite a respectable amount of technicalities

  •  One thing to note about the Kalideer is it overall sounds slower, giving a more relaxed response

05

Bass :

  •  Bass on the Kalideer is girthy but modest, giving you a good experience without overdoing the amount

  •  Basslines rumble and go deep in terms of tone, giving a bodied experience

  •  Subbass rumbles clean and gives a good amount of give, sounding more organic

  •  808 punches with a balanced feeling, xtensions are also fairly good, giving good sustains that makes notes sound more prominent

06

Vocals :

  •  Positioning of vocals is just a little hit behind dead centre, but still provides good engagement

  •  Vocals sound slightly on the thinner side but still provides good emphasis on inflections and providing some form of engagement

  •  The Kalideer favours male vocals, which lie lower in the FR, giving a more structural feeling

07

Midrange :

  •  Instruments are quite lively and give you a good amount of musical interests into the mix

  •  With a more slowed down response, guitars feel like they have more reverb and overtones that add to the overall ambience of the mix

  •  For tracks that sound lively and hyper such as Hoshimachi Suisei - BIBIDIBAeverything suddenly felt more digestible and weirdly - more inviting to listen to despite not sounding as technical as other sets

  •  Jazzy songs from Melody Gardotmakes the entire track feel like you can just dive into it’s mix and be engulfed in the grounding and bodied piano notes, complementing the doublebass

  •  Listening to Bring Me The Horizon feels somewhat very full and more enjoyable as the distortion on gutiars feel more fat, and Oli’s screams feel more acceptable to listen for longer periods

08

Treble :

  •  Treble is organic and has a very slight roundness for peaks that resembles analog-y, tubey compression

          • In another way, it resembles slightly of the Tipsy M1, but not to that point where I will consider it sounding dark

  •  Percussions are just a tad bit back from the centre, giving this set the ability to listen with longevity without much issues

  •  For Polyphia - ABCthis track is infamously mastered to sound very harsh on the treble, but the Kalideer is able to make it sound more relaxed on the percs and vocals, and showcasing it’s good amount of details and extension

09

Technical Highlights :

   •  DYNAMICS of the Kalideer has the word “relaxing” written all over it. This is not a pair to hype yourself up with, but one to wind down and relax

  •  STAGING of this set is promising as it gives a good amount of width and reach that aids good IMAGING and SEPERATION. Definitely not surgically accurate due to the warm and relaxed tuning, but within it’s category, its quite good

  •  DETAIL RETREIVAL is done tastefully. Despite (again) the tuning characteristic, macro and micros are still quite prominent throughout. Think of the detail amount something along the lines of the HIDIZS MK12 Turris but with not that much tactility

Final Thoughts

KBEAR has done something that not much people are focusing on. In the pursuit for things that tickle you fancy, the Kalideer seems to be going for a different approach that works in it’s own way. With a relaxed tuning and a more laidback and organic presence, this alone is good enough for people who want a pair that sounds technical, and relaxed at the same time.

I woud like to thank KEEPHIFI for sending these over for an honest evaluation.
